"The body had two bullet wounds. We have also recovered five cartridges of a sub-machine gun (SMG) rifle at the scene and we are still hunting for the prime suspect," Mr Ssenkumbi said. The investigators say that the suspects may not be directly linked to the murder but their information will be very vital to their investigations since the deceased often frequent the bar with his colleagues.
According to investigators, the two suspects in the police custody told them that Ingabire and a male friend remained drinking in the bar gardens past midnight but after they had just paid their bills, the waitress heard gunshots. Ingabire was a vocal critic of President Paul Kagame.
"After the gunshots, the waitress and the guard went to the scene only to find Ingabire on ground injured and his friend fleeing the scene," an investigator said. The body of Ingabire is still in Mulago Hospital where police are carrying out a post mortem.
The relatives of the deceased are still waiting at Mulago Hospital to receive the body but security agencies are still holding the body for more investigations.
