Today the High Court rejected the bail appeal of Madame Victoire Ingabire,
Chairperson of the FDU-INKINGI, on the grounds that even though her detention order
expired over the Christmas holiday, the case was transmitted to the Court for
the evidential stage thereafter.
The judge's decision was not a surprise as Rwandan President Paul Kagame stated during a press conference on 18 January 2011, two days before the verdict was read, that Mrs.Victoire Ingabire will face the law up to the exhaustion of the judical process.
In front of the High Courthouse, an AFP reporter, Mr. Steve Terril, was
assaulted by Rwandan security officers and a CID officer for taking photos of the
defendant.
