It has been brought to the attention of the United Nations Organization Stabilisation Mission in the Democratic epublic of the Congo, (MONUSCO) that some individuals have been using the name of both the United Nations Security Council and MONUSCO to fraudulently obtain money from mining companies doing business in the Congo.

In their bid to dupe their victims, the individuals have presented documents bearing fake letterheads of both the UN Security Council and the Mission as well as a forged seal of the UN Security Council.

They go at length to explain that the United Nations is working together with a Congolese Ministry and that we issue licences for the exportation of mining products.
MONUSCO and indeed the UN Security Council wish to make it abundantly clear that they do not provide clearances for commercial transactions of any kind.

Victoire Ingabire's Former Residence Attacked with Molotov Cocktail.

FDU-Inkingi
Press Release
16 March 2010

In Kigali today, at around 19:50, a Molotov cocktail was hurled by an unknown assailant(s) into the former residence compound of jailed FDU-Inkingi Chairperson, Ms. Victoire Ingabire. Nobody was injured in the attack.

The police were immediately informed. First, the Gasabo District DPC visited the scene and ordered an overnight police patrol. Later, other police officers came to find out what happened. After a cosmetic fact-finding exercise, one of the officers ironically suggested the cocktail might have been thrown by the house residents in order to draw the attention of the media.

According to the watchman, a few minutes before the attack a suspect was first seen scouting the area around the compound and was spotted glimpsing a look over the compound wall. A local female journalist who interviewed the watchman got into a short argument with a police officer who wanted to smooth and preview her report before she broadcast it.

The leadership of FDU-Inkingi condemns this coward attack and calls for a thorough investigation in order to bring the culprits to book. Every government is duty-bound to ensure security for its citizens, irrespective of their political orientation.

For the FDU-INKINGI,

Boniface Twagirimana
Interim Vice-President
